PUDUKKOTTAI

Pudukkottai is the administrative headquarters of Pudukkottai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a large town located on the banks the vellar river, it has been ruled, at different times, by the Cholas, Pandyas, Thondaimans, and the British. It is situated about 395 kilometres (245 miles) southwest of the state capital Chennai and about 55 kilometres (34 miles) southeast of Tiruchirappalli.

BHUVANESHWARI AMMAN TEMPLE

PILLAYARPATTI TEMPLE

Karpaga Vinayagar temple is one of the oldest cave temples (rock cut) of Tamilnadu and situated at Pillayarpatti, which is between Pudukkottai and Karaikudi. Pillayarpatti is situated at a distance of 71kms from Madurai and 12 kms from Karaikudi on Thirupathur – Karaikudi state highway. The village gets its name from the temple. Here lord Vinayaka appears with 2 hands unlike in other places where he is seen with 4 hands.


THIRUMAYAM FORT

Olden days kings construct fort and palaces, so as to protect the subjects from the enemy country and a residential area for the royal family. A similar type of fort exists in Thirumayam at a distance of 18km from Pudukkotai. It was built by Sethupathy Vijaya Raghunathan Thevar of Ramanathapuram in 1687 A.D. The actual fort is two times greater than the fort as we have seen today. The main entrance of the fort is situated one km away from the present structure.


AVUDAIYARKOIL

Avudaiyarkoil is a village in the Pudukkotai district of Tamil Nadu, India. The village has a temple named Tirupperunturai. It is about 14 kilometres South East of the Major town Aranthangi along State Highway 26, on the South bank of the Vellar River.

An inscription of this temple mentions that the original temple has been built by king Azhakiya Manavalan.
